Why are leaves turning yellow?

Yellowing is a symptom with several possible causes.

What to look for

Notice whether one older leaf is changing or several new leaves are affected. Check the potting mix, roots, light and recent changes; age, watering stress and pests can all cause yellowing.

What to do

Feel the mix before watering and check that the pot drains. Adjust care to the plant rather than adding fertilizer immediately. Photograph new growth and compare it over the next few weeks.
