Brown tips and edges

Dry brown edges can come from more than dry air.

What to look for

Look at the pattern and check whether the mix is very dry, constantly wet or crusted with mineral salts. Water stress, root problems, accumulated salts and exposure to heat can all contribute.

What to do

Check moisture and drainage first. Avoid a sudden increase in fertilizer, and keep the plant away from hot or cold drafts. Old brown tissue will not turn green again; watch whether new leaves improve.
