Thrips

Silvery streaks and tiny dark specks can be clues.

What to look for

Thrips are very small, slender insects that may move quickly. Inspect new leaves and flowers for irregular silvery patches, distortion and tiny dark droppings; other pests can make similar marks.

What to do

Separate the plant and check nearby plants. Rinse suitable foliage and use sticky cards to help monitor flying adults. Recheck new growth; if treatment is needed, use a product labeled for thrips and the plant.
