Leaves curling or twisting

Curled foliage can result from pests or growing conditions.

What to look for

Examine new growth and the undersides of leaves for insects, webbing or sticky residue. Also check the soil, heat, drafts and recent changes in light; several stresses can produce similar curling.

What to do

Address what you can actually observe: adjust unsuitable conditions and separate the plant if pests are present. Avoid using treatments just because a leaf is curled. Check whether the next leaves open normally.
